The Foundation of Religious Sciences, John XXIII, is a research institute specialized in Christianity and other religions. It was established in 1953, and recognized by a decree of the President of the Italian Republic and has agreements with the University of Bologna and other universities. As a private foundation, independent of churches and universities, its continuous work is supported by private donations.
It continues the research in history of Christianity begun by Giuseppe Dossetti (1913-1996) and developed by di Giuseppe Alberigo (1926-2007), who was its director for almost fifty years. It considers the accurate knowledge of historical processes an adequate and appropriate manner of participating in intellectual and spiritual research.
