The volume offers a comprensive analysis of Church-State realtions in post-Sovietic Russia, with particular reference to external realtions of the Rusian Orthodox Church. The book investigates the impact od the appointment of Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad - now Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' - as head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Realtions (DECR), and his contribution to strengthening this branch of the Moscow Patriarchate. 
It further provides and in-depth analysis of the ecclesiale crisis in Ukraine, the division of the churches, and the processo leading toward unification and the creation of a Ukrainian National Church, exploring he implications of this processo for the foreign policy of the Rusian Federation.
