VEREAD Webinar Series – Ujamaa
6 maggio 2026 | Online via Zoom
On Wednesday 6 May 2026, from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm, the webinar Ujamaa Contextual Bible Study and community transformation, within the framework of the VEREAD project, will be held online via Zoom.
To participate: https://tinyurl.com/UjamaaVereadZoom
The webinar presents the work of the Ujamaa Centre and its approach to community development through theology, exploring the method of Contextual Bible Study, an approach that places marginalised communities at its centre, inviting them to read and interpret biblical texts through the lens of their own lived experience. The aim is not purely spiritual or academic, but explicitly transformative, since the reading of the Bible becomes a tool for raising awareness, denouncing injustice, and fostering social mobilisation.
At the heart of the Centre's mission lies the practice of praxis, the ongoing cycle of action and reflection, which enables the Centre to respond faithfully to the ever-changing realities of the South African context, while maintaining an indispensable connection between community and academy.
The seminar will be presented by Dr. Sithembiso Zwane (University of KwaZulu-Natal) and Prof. Charlene van der Walt (Church of Sweden / UKZN)
