VEREAD Webinar Series – Africa's Green and Blue Economy

On Friday, May 22, 2026, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. CET (9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. EAT), the virtual seminar Africa’s Green and Blue Economy: A Feminist Perspective will take place.
The event is organized within the VEREAD project by the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Kenyatta University.

The webinar will explore the “green and blue economy,” economic models that aim to integrate economic growth with environmental sustainability, within the African context and from a feminist perspective.
It will open a space for discussion on sustainability, economic development, gender roles, and the importance of African perspectives in shaping a more inclusive future.

The guest speaker will be Fatuma Ali, Associate Professor of International Relations at United States International University–Africa.

Participants will also include Dr. Fridah Kathambi; Prof. Philomena Mwaura for the opening remarks; Dr. Josephine Gitome and Prof. David Minja as chairs; Dr. Cyprian Kavivya, Mme. Pauline Otieno, and Mr. John Tatu as discussants; and Dr. Zacharia Samita and Dr. Eric Masika for the closing remarks and vote of thanks.
