VEREAD Webinar - Environmental Ethics in African Thought and Practice

On Friday 26 February 2026, from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm EAT (6.30 - 11.30 CET), the webinar Environmental Ethics in African Thought and Practice, within the framework of the VEREAD project, will be held online via Zoom at this link: https://shorturl.at/QtDeF
The initiative is hosted by the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), in Tanzania, and Kenyatta Universit, in Kenya.

The seminar offers and interdisciplinary reflection on environmental ethics within African thought and practice, with particular attention to perspective emerging from religious and philosophical traditions
The event seeks to examine the key ideas and practice a that influence now African communities understand their relatioship with the environment and their responsibility toward It.

The seminar will open with welcoming remarks by Dr. Evaristi Magoti, followed by preliminary remarks by prof. Philomena Mwara
The first lecture, Environmental Ethics in African Thought and Practice: Perspectives from African Religion and Culture will be delivered by Dr. Victor B. Bin Kapela, with the Q&A session moderated by Dr. Ivan Kivinge and Ms. Asha Ibrahim. 
The second lecture, Environmental Ethics in African Thought and Practice: Philosophical Perspectives, will be held by Dr. Tadayo Kibaba Makokha, with a second Q&A session moderated by Dr. John Nzioka and John Tatu

The programme also includes break out sessions coordinated by ICT (UDSM) and Alex Katto, a plenary discussione chaired by Dr. Friday Kathambi; closing remarks by Dr. Michael Lyakurwa and a vote of tanks by Zacharia Samita.
